A number of protests were staged in the south
of Yemen
by the Southern Movement on Thursday, the most significant ones were in Radfan
and Yaher in Lahj province and Rudom in Shabwah province.
In Radfan, in Lahj province, thousands of
people attended the protest raising flags of the former state of South Yemen
and photographs of its former president who lives in exile, Ali Salem Al Baid, in
addition to photographs of dead and wounded people against the backdrop of the
peaceful southern movement in the south of Yemen.
Nasser Al Khabaji, the leader in the Movement
in the area, censured murdering four Yemeni soldiers, accusing the Yemeni
government of killing them in order to defame the "peaceful struggle of
the southerners."
In the same province of Lahj
there was another protest in Yaher district, one of Yafie districts. The people
also raised flags of former South Yemen, and photographs
ofpolitical southern captives still in
prison.
Speakers ensured the "continuation of the
struggle until the complete independence," and demanded the government to
cancel the unjust death sentence against the guard of Al Ayyam Newspaper, Ahmed
Al Markashi.
The speakers also indicated the existence of
southern captives in the Yemeni jails among them the sons of Taher Talmah and
Mohammed Saleh Tamah, the leaders in the Southern Movement.
A protest also rallied in Shabwah province,
exactly in Rudom area, where hundreds of people gathered to censure the death
sentence against Al Markashi and to demand the release of the remaining
prisoners.
The demonstration was attended by several
Southern Movement leaders in the area, among them Ahmed Nasser Ba'audah, Khalid
Al Mnsour, Mohammed Yslam Ba'audah, Ali Atash, Abdulsalam Al Ahmdi and Nasser
Ba'audah.
The Yemeni government released dozens of
Southern Movement leaders and activists, but leaders in the movement say that the number of detainees held under
the campaigns of the arbitrary arrests, reached the number "hundreds"
in the local cities and provinces of the south.
